Biography
Michiru Shimada (島田 満, Shimada Michiru, May 19, 1959 – December 15, 2017) was a Japanese screenwriter from Tokyo. She was a member of the Writers Guild of Japan. Shimada graduated from Department of Japanese Studies in Waseda University. In 1981, when she was in her third university year, she learned that Toei Animation would hire new recruits for the first time in 10 years, and she took the exam to become trainee director. Although she passed the exam with high marks, she was encouraged to write a script instead because the studio's policy at the time was not hiring women as directors.
