Biography
Gottfried Reinhardt was an influential film director and producer who bridged the gap between European and American cinema. Born in Berlin, Germany, Reinhardt was the son of renowned theater director Max Reinhardt. Following his father’s lead, Gottfried began his career in the arts, working in theater before moving to Hollywood in the 1930s to escape the rise of Nazism. Reinhardt started in Hollywood as a script reader and gradually worked his way up to producer and director. As a producer, he contributed to notable films such as The Red Badge of Courage (1951), directed by John Huston.
