Biography

Shōji Sakai is a Japanese film editor and director. In 1968, he entered the film department of Tama Art School (now Tama Art University). After graduating in 1971, he studied under editors Shunji Takemura and Osamu Tanaka as an assistant editor. Around 1975, he became an independent editor while working as an assistant director to director Kōji Seki. Around this time, director Kan Mukai founded Universe Productions, and pink films distributed by Toei began to be produced regularly, and since then, his editing work began to increase.
